Welcome to the Walsh Intermediate School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Here you will find information that explains the NJHS, its requirements for candidates, members, and other important information.
Candidate Invitation Forms
Students in the third trimester of 7th grade who meet the Scholarship criterion will receive an invitation and information packet at a meeting. The student must then fill out the candidate information packet, complete an essay, and submit teacher recommendation forms completely and return it to Mrs. Grattan by the due date provided. The submitted information will be reviewed by the five member Faculty Counsel and unanimous decision will be made determining eligibility into the Society.
Understand the Obligations of NJHS Membership
NJHS is more than just an honor society. In addition to sustaining the qualities that earn you your membership, as an NJHS member you'll attend society meetings, perform service projects that benefit your school and communities, and fulfill any other responsibilities as required by your local chapter bylaws.

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and National Honor Society (NHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1929.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the NHS (High School) and NJHS (Middle School). NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

To become a member of NJHS, you must be selected as a candidate by your chapter's Faculty Council. Students who meet a cumulative GPA requirement of 4.0 will then be considered for membership on the basis of service, leadership, citizenship and character. You will be asked to complete a Candidate Information Packet distributed by the Walsh Intermediate NJHS Advisors. Membership is determined by a majority vote of the five member Faculty Council after careful review of the candidate information packet.
